The original Annie film is THE soundtrack. Love all the songs. Also the sound of her tap shoes climbing up the tower thing, lives in my head rent free.
Really enjoyed season 7 of Black Mirror. (Common People was the darkest, I thought , though brilliant. Just all too depressingly plausible.) Loved the reprise of USS Callister.
I’ll watch the new season of Andor. My adult son persuaded me to watch the first series and it was a good shout!
Common People, totally agree - horribly understandable and believable. Andor has been on my list so I’ll need to get to it - good to hear it’s worth it
All of these Black Mirror discussions are pushing me further and further toward binging the show. I recently watched the first episode and as was mentioned in the post it delivered much shock value. I just hope there are less animal centric gross outs in future episodes.
I think it’s the only one! And while there are still shocks and uncomfortable moments, I haven’t been disturbed to that level since. Every episode is its own creation really- I definitely recommend working your way through a few to see where it goes
Yesss some Black Mirror love! Thanks for the mention and I love your cross season episode recommendation. I can't think of any other episode I'd recommend people who have never watched the show.
I also remember watching a Polish version of Black Mirror a few years ago called Czarne lusterko. There was one episode around using DNA to predict a child's future (including if they are likely to become a murdered). It was really good. It's still fully on YouTube I think: https://youtu.be/MFUUydRo-OQ?si=rpM-DtI-yjoHPVXR
I just had a whole discussion about this with my partner this weekend when we started watching Wednesday. I have an issue with Luis Guzmán for no good reason whatsoever but it's to the point where I have to skip scenes he's in. I remember watching "How to make it in America" and I really liked the show but I ended up just fast forwarding all his scenes.
Thanks Gill! I’ve downloaded a couple of those Black Mirror episodes for the plane so that I feel less left out! And LOVE that Annie backstory….a poem and a cartoon - who knew!!
Looking forward to hearing what you think of Black Mirror, hopefully spared the nightmares 😄 And Annie - yes! And I’d like to know more about the real girl the original poem was based on
That Shakepeare insult generator is totally wild and I love it!!! Artless earth-vexing haggard will be my way of addressing anyone who crosses me from now on. It sounds quite grand too so I see no reason why anyone should feel offended as it's objectively an upgrade from being simply called a waste of space 😂 Also, thanks for the Black Mirror guide as I have never watched it and feel a bit intimidated by it as I already have a lot of things to get anxious about as it is, but the Hotel Reverie episode sounds very intriguing and I should probably watch it (said she bracing herself)

I feel like National Anthem is the worse first episode of any show ever 😂. It puts so many people off Black Mirror.
It definitely landed the show with a bang!

Brilliant recommendation that I’d never have found - thank you!
Haha yes this is very niche 😂. Let me know what you think of you check it out!
Will do!
If you had to rank the Black Mirror episodes from this season what would that ranking look like? Trying to save myself some time!
I’m going by @Aurelie Chazal ’s list, but I did enjoy Eulogy more - a reminder of the things we miss when we’re not paying attention
Lots of people seem to really enjoy Eulogy so I would definitely recommend it! I think I just really dislikes the main guy 😂
That’s an interesting one actually - actors who have spoiled good material because you can’t help but dislike them! 😄

I keep seeing clips of Good Hang on instagram. Definitely going to give this a listen!
She’s so instantly likeable - I’ll be listening to more, it’s good warm-hearted stuff

I’ve been hearing about Andor everywhere. Although I’m not Star Wars-y I might give it a try.
