Some people are just made to be remembered - I’d have loved to have a rummage in that store, smell or not 😄 Yes, so cool that it’s the Doubtfire gallery!
An absolute delight to read this backstory. Robin Williams was a star and his work with Mrs Doubtfire I felt was so so rich, and this story around it is making it a masterpiece.... Thanks for sharing this. And this is why I love what you guys do.
Yara and I actually discussed that too - no I didn’t find any mention of children in articles or bios. One does mention a nephew, as Anne Fine found him when looking for permission to use the name when the book was getting published (Annabella had passed away by that point). I wonder if there are more records on her somewhere…
On Friday I booked a trip to Edinburgh for next year and now you put Madame Doubtfire on my path ☺️ I’ll make sure to pop by the former shop when I’m there. What a great character she was.
I love this! I had no idea. Really cool that the name is still above the door today too.

Such a cool post. I never even considered there Mrs. Doubtfire was inspired by a real person. She sounded like a badass.
Thanks Aurelie! Badass is definitely the word - she sounds like someone who was unapologetically herself and was loved for it

Thanks Sai, glad you enjoyed this one! We now have two iconic Mrs Doubtfires 😄
The name is perfect and the picture with her cat could not be more iconic. Did you mention if she ever had kids? Did I miss that?

It seems that most who lived in the city at that time remembers her - what a cool character.
Amazing re your trip - we have another Edinburgh story we want to share, so will need to do it soon in case you want to add to your tour 😄
